2024 Events Friday, August 2nd: . 48th Annual Square Dance | 9:30pm–1:00am Music by Shelly Campbell, Alan Dewar & special guest Greg Bungay 19 years and over! Saturday, August 3rd: 5K Poker Walk | 8:30am Join us each morning for a 5k Poker Walk starting at the WCC. Là Mór a’ Bhaile | 63rd Highland Village Day Concert - Iona An afternoon of Gaelic arts. Fiddlers, step-dancers, pipers, highland dancers, and more, come together to treat visitors to traditional Nova Scotia Gaelic culture in this outdoor concert overlooking the Bras d’Or Lakes. Sunday, August 4th: Washabuck Beach Day | 2:00pm A beach party day after Highland Village Day. Come for a swim and socialize at the Washabuck Beach. Be sure to bring your singing voice or instrument. BBQ services around 4ish. Sausages $5.00, Hotdogs, $4.00 and Pop $2.00. Fireworks after dark (9:00ish) Weather permitting Monday, August 5th: 5K Poker Walk |  8:30am Join us each morning for a 5k Poker Walk starting at the WCC. Cape Breton Regional Library Outreach |  9:30am–11:00am Book tables will be setup so folks could check out books/ DVD's/ audio books, or return them; sign up for a free library card, pick up free crafts, learn about our digital services, etc. Washabuck Café  | 9:30am–11:00am A perfect time to stop in at the WCC for a coffee or a great cup of tea and some goodies. *Featuring daily specials! Tots & Toddlers Story time | 11:00 - 12:00am We welcome our youngest friends to join us for Browns Bears story time. Listen to some of Browns Bears favourite storybooks and learn some new fun songs. Bring your favourite bear friend! Cribbage Tournament | 1:30pm–4:00pm Come out to the WCC for an afternoon of cribbage. $5 per person. Tuesday, August 6th: 5K Poker Walk  |  8:30am Join us each morning for a 5k Poker Walk starting at the WCC. Washabuck Café |  9:30am–11:00am A perfect time to stop in at the WCC for a coffee or a great cup of tea and some goodies. *Featuring daily specials! Roddie MacLean Memorial Golf Scramble | 3:00pm “Golf Scramble” format at Bell Bay Golf Club Baddeck. Green Fees for 18 holes is $75.+ tax includes shared power cart & with different additions to add to the experience. Come out for a day of fun, and sun (we hope!). Cape Breton Celtic Cultural Experiences | 6:30-8:30pm Did you ever wonder, “What is the difference between a jig, a reel, a strathspey?” or “What is the hop step?”. Have you ever wanted to participate in a Cape Breton square dance but you’re not quite sure how it all works? Do you want to enjoy a great Cape Breton ceilidh with fiddle music and hospitality? Nature Walk | 11:00am-12:30pm A nature walk on a NEW trail with our very own Gus MacLean at MacKay’s Point, Lower Washabuck. Definitely an opportunity to learn about nature while taking a nice stroll! All are welcome! Please wear appropriate footwear! At your own risk! Float Your Boat Poker Run | 2:00pm Get an afternoon workout floating along the shores of Washabuck River. Kayaks, SUP, Canoes, or anything that floats are all welcomed! At your own risk! Sunday, August 11th: Church Service |  2:00pm Mass at Holy Rosary Church, followed by a Blessing at the cemetery. A meet & greet at the WCC with tea/coffee and a light lunch to celebrate our Washabuck's Summer Festival finale day. Beach Day A day to relax and to recuperate.
